Fun with obsolete hardware

My ultracheap Fisheye camera ($30, almost 180°angle) is pleasureable. Maybe the best thing about it is that you can see the inside of the lens. It's kind of like when you close your eyes and concentrate on the reddish web in front of the dark. You actually see the very front of your brain, the optic nerve that is. |

Man liest des öfteren, dass die New Yorker sich obsessiv mit Immobilien und dem Mietrecht beschäftigten. Das hängt natürlich mit den extremen Bodenpreisen und den ständig steigenden Mieten zusammen. Wer das Glück hat, Inhaber eines sogennaten «rent-stabilized» Mietvertrags zu sein – das heisst, dass der Vermieter die Miete nicht willkürlich erhöhen darf – gibt diesen nicht so schnell her. Die Vermieter wiederum sind daran interessiert, solche Verträge nach und nach aufzulösen, um einen höheren Profit zu machen. Und ich? Bin privilegiert, weil ich zufälligerweise ein Zimmer in einer solchen Wohnung bewohne. |
